Celebrating Founder's Day with Marianne's favorite socks.

"It is always fun to run through the socks and pick out my favorites. I designed two of my picks early on and am proud to see they have endured in the lineup for nearly 25 years."

Cat Crew

My feel-good colors are soft browns and blues, and my favorite pet was Pesci the cat. He was an orange tabby with short legs and a long body who was confident he could fit all of his 22 pounds into small boxes. He not only sprawled across my workspace but took up the entire desk, daring me to tug an important piece of paper out from under him. If my opinion was that there wasn’t room on my lap when I was knitting, he would sit next to me patiently until I let go of a knitting needle to adjust my work. Then he would grab the needle in his teeth, pull it out and run away. He delighted in my panic to protect the loose loops from unraveling while I scrambled to retrieve my knitting needle. He was affectionate and funny, with a mismatched personality and appearance.

Fiddlehead Ankle

Did you know Fiddleheads are edible? It’s important to boil them first, then sear in a pan of butter. Although I don’t eat my socks, the colors in the Fiddlehead ankle socks blend with early summer shoots of ferns pushing through soil.

Raspberry Knee

Raspberry was another early success for me. I still favor these colors when choosing my outfit.

Bluebell Quarter

Bluebell was one of the first socks I designed, so I am proud to see it has endured in a prominent place in the lineup.

Ponderosa says it all. The original designs are stacked beautifully and the colors pull me into the forest.

I love the colors in the Nori. In winter, my ankles look and feel warmer when wrapped in burgundy.
